A Tuscan Birthday Party – Landmark birthdays
All this cold weather and Wanderlust is making me think back to warmer times this summer, when we were in Italy. This year was the year of the birthday with both myself and my mother-in-law having landmark birthdays and luckily we were able to celebrate them in Tuscany. A Tuscan birthday party is a wonderful thing…it’s full of sunshine, swimming pools and Prosecco. My favourite things.
A Tuscan Birthday Party
We made an Italian-themed spread, with an injection of British charm (think fresh tomato bruschetta and prawn mayo vol-au-vents) and plenty of Prosecco. The Italians approved of our attempts of autenticity. All the neighbours came and the kids played in the pool. The weather was glorious, which is a photographer’s dream – just everything looks better in that light! It makes you realise how sun deprived we are here in the UK.
My mother-in-law loves Sunflowers, so that was our theme, along with the red, green and white of the Italian flag. We went to the local equivalent of Poundstretcher or Quality Save and bought lots of balloons, garlands and other bits to decorate the house and terrace.
The party lasted all day and continued into the next day, when we enjoyed an amazing family meal at Castelfalfi which I’ve written about before. The little lady was weaning and enjoying trying all the Italian food that we were all eating. I love that she has such a great appetite.
I got to give my floaty summer’s dress from Zara a run out too (didn’t get to wear it in the UK hardly at all).
It was lovely making memories with the family and I know I’ll always look back on this summer and remember how much fun we all had celebrating. I think it’s so nice to get away sometimes to mark an occasion – particularly a special one.
Have you got a landmark birthday coming-up? What do you have planned?
