Introducing Greater Manchester’s newest venue – Artwork Atelier at Greengate
My job means I get to be a part of a lot of really fantastic, unique and exciting projects. It also means I get to attends lots of launch nights, openings and networking events. One of the most recent being, the opening of the cool Manchester venue, Artwork Atelier at Greengate, Salford. I’m a lucky girl!
This is a fantastic converted warehouse space on the borders of Manchester and Salford and offers new businesses, creatives and event organisers versatile and raw space to do with what they will (within reason of course!).
When you walk into the impressive 3-storey, 55,000 sq ft building you instantly get a feel of history, design and space. It’s the perfect environment for creatives, artists and new businesses alike. The ground floor is mixed-use, collaborative space geared towards, but not limited to new businesses, designers and artists. The space is designed to create a community of  start-ups and creatives who can form an environment where they can support and help each other grow. Everything under one roof. It’s a space of purpose-built studios…you decide how much space you need, what power your require, how much light you want..and then build it!
And that’s exactly what the first set of tenants have done so far and what was show-cased at the opening event. One designer has chosen to install a mezzanine level in his space for example, as this is what worked for his needs. Pretty cool huh!
The second level comprises of office space and promises to bring additional shared areas for its tenants, including a library and meeting room.
The third floor is the ideal blank canvas – open space for events, festivals and exhibitions. With a lofty, industrial feel, its the perfect venue for a number of  things and I can’t wait to see what the space will host in 2014.
Walking around the partially completed warehouse, you get the impression that this is really going to be something exciting. Something that Manchester’s cool are going to be a part of and something that is going to harbour some seriously creative work!
Look at this awesome pop-up bar…
The venue hosts an opening evening every Wednesday from 4pm – 7pm in October and November. So be sure to take a look (you might even be treated to a free drink if you’re lucky!). If you pop along, be sure to ask for the Top Dog, Mr Ben “Lewey” Lewis and make sure you tell him I sent you 🙂
Head along and let me know what you think…
