Home Design Trends – Our Home Renovation
If you’ve been keeping up with The House Project, then you’ll have seen the majority of the posts have been with regards to the building works and the demolition phase of our home renovation. I’ve not had much time to think or enjoy the fun bit, which is thinking about how we actually want it to look and all the soft furnishings that we’ll decorate our new home with. So today, rather than show you a wet building site, I thought I’d do a post on home design trends…
Home Design Trends
I don’t necessarily see the design of our house being “on-trend”. I always go with what I like personally, with a slight influence from what’s in vogue. I like to mix old with new, original features with modern finishes and end up with what I hope is an eclectic, stylish and comfortable look to our home.
We hope to carry this through to our new family home, however, this is the first home that we will have had a say on the design and layout of the house and are really building it to fit our lifestyles and style – rather than adapting a home to make it work as best it can.
So that has made us more conscious to get the interior design of our home renovation right, so the soft furnishings do the renovation justice. So that’s why I’ve been looking more at the current home design trends, to see if we can incorporate some of the looks into our interior design.
And what they heck – it’s nice to just enjoy looking at a bit of home design inspo on a Sunday isn’t it?
Fusion
One place I’ve always shopped for furnishings, is John Lewis. Our first sofa bed in our very first flat together was from there. Our bathroom light fittings in our current home are from there and so naturally I’m looking to John Lewis for inspiration for our new family home.
One of their current home design trends is called ‘Fusion’ and as soon as I spotted it on their website, I knew I’d be taking influence from this range. Like I said, I like an eclectic mix of furnishings and textiles and the Fusion range is just that.
Without realising it, I seem to be drawn to blue a lot. Most of our current house has blue either in the colour of the walls or in the furnishings. So I adore this throw and this cushion combo.
I also adore the texture in this cushion and John Lewis have actually styled a room using a combination of the pieces I’ve chosen (I must have good taste!)….
Croft
The other home design trend that I’m liking from John Lewis at the moment, is Croft. This collection has a cleaner look, with natural hues and more timeless in design. I think some of the pieces from Croft and Fusion would work really well together…
I love the simplicity of these dining chairs and this side table would look really well with the blue textiles above.
I’ve definitely taken inspiration from these two design trends and think mixing the two looks will work really well in our completed renovation. I’m building a bank of inspiration and often save things I like on my Pinterest page, so check it out. These looks are going on the list and I’ll be heading to John Lewis before long.
Once the renovation is complete and our home is furnished, I’ll be sharing photos of the interior so you can see what we actually went with in terms of interior design.
What are your home design trend inspirations?
This post was in collaboration with John Lewis, all views and tastes are my own and I don’t write about things, I don’t genuinely like! All images are from the John Lewis website.Â
