The Stagg Inn Herefordshire
On our way to our friends’ Summer Solstice Wedding, we stumbled across this absolute gem for lunch –Â The Stagg Inn, Herefordshire. What a treat it was on a sunny Summer’s day.
We decided to have a lunch and were looking for somewhere with a beer garden to make the most of the glorious weather. And boy did we find the perfect spot when we drove past the Stagg Inn. The perfectly manicured front garden housed wrought iron garden tables with parasols, beckoning us in to enjoy with a cold glass of wine…mmm.
We were ecstatic that there was a table with our name on it (not literally, that would’ve been freaky!) and pounced. Hubby made his way to the bar where he quickly returned with a large glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc for me, a beer for him, and an impressive menu for lunch.
I quickly decided on the Fillet of Herefordshire Beef (how could I not?), which was served with mushrooms, chips and wild garlic butter. Hubby went for the Seabass fillet, pickled cucumber, samphire and ash potatoes.
While we were waiting we were served gorgeous homemade foccacia bread with chilli, rosemary and rock salt, with oils for dipping. This was a lovely, unexpected touch.
Then came our mains…
The beef was stunning, like butter to cut and packed full of flavour with the garlic butter and crunchy chips. Mmmm… The mushrooms deserve a special mention, as they were bursting with meaty flavour and a real surprise!
Hubby’s seabass looked stunning! I was sceptical about the ash potatoes, but mixed with everything else, they actually worked. And I just love samphire – look how green and lovely it looks on the plate.
Needless to say, we finished our meal with satisfied grins and slurps or our drinks. What a perfect meal to enjoy in the sun.
As we were headed to a wedding with a Champagne and Dessert reception, we backed away slowly from the dessert menu – but there were certainly some mouth-watering options on there.
Instead hubby ordered coffee and I ordered another glass of wine to enjoy in the sun. Another surprise came with our drinks…a small homemade lemon tart each (this was a delicious morsel!), along with a bag of homemade dark chocolate crisps with fennel seeds and chilli. What a treat!
The Stagg Inn certainly goes that extra mile to make you feel special, looked after and you really do enjoy some pretty spectacular food in a stunning quintessentially English garden setting. I am so pleased we stumbled across this gem and will be sure to return when we’re next in Herefordshire. Massive recommendations!
Herefordshire is such a stunning part of the country and I really want to go back. Where should we visit next time?
