Is this the best burger in Manchester? Five Guys review

Do you ever wake up and have an uncontrollable craving for a particular food? And you just won’t rest until you have said food? Well yesterday, I woke up with a desire for a seriously juicy burger.

This is not a regular craving of mine, but for some reason I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was a woman on a mission!

Lunchtime was upon us and we didn’t want to venture too far. With a baby in tow, it had to be about convenience and speed. Convenience, speed and burgers! And that’s what Five Guys in the Trafford Centre offered us.

We reached the Trafford Centre at the peak of the lunch time rush at 12.30pm and Five Guys was busy with happy diners chomping away at their burgers. We jumped on a table and hubby went up to order. Being me, I’d already done my research and checked-out the menu online before we left. Obvs.

Fiver Guys Burgers and Fries does exactly what it says on the tin and is very much a “no-frills” approach to dining. There are burgers, fries, dogs, drinks and nothing else on the menu. You can add toppings for free – and as many as you want! How awesome is that!

We both opted for Bacon Cheeseburgers, me with pickles and hubby with pickles and onions. A side of large fries with cajun seasoning for him, plain for me and he opted for a vanilla shake and I went for peanut butter…heaven!!!

The food was ready within minutes – you order at the desk, pay then head over to the end of the desk to await your brown paper bag of deliciousness. Then it was time to tuck in…

As I unwrapped the silver foil keeping the moist burger and gooey cheese together, I was salivating and eager to dive in. Just look at that cheese. And it’s the best kind of cheese, in my opinion, for a juicey burger – american cheese! You know the kind? The fake squares of yellow cheese that makes the perfect topping for a proper fast-food-esque burger. Simply topped with ketchup and some sliced pickles, this burger was seriously scrumptious. A soft bun, moist and slightly pink meat, oozey cheese and tart pickles. Perfection!

The fries deserve a mention too…hand cut each day, these bad boys were the perfect thickness and nicely crispy (and not at all greasy or overly salted). All of this washed down with a perfectly peanutty milkshake, made for a very happy diner. My craving had been seriously fulfilled. Thank you Five Guys, whoever you are!

Now, in my opinion, for a fast-food burger meal, Five Guys is by no means a cheap lunch. It cost £32 for 2 burgers (damn good burgers!), 1 portion of large fries and 2 shakes. I think this is a lot and I would have been disappointed if the burger didn’t taste sooooo good.

So all in all, this burger ranks up there for me as one of the best burgers I’ve had the pleasure of eating.

I feel I’m now on a burger mission to find the best burger in all the land. Where should I try?
