My Top 5 Wedding Photographers – Wedding Tips

Continuing on in my series of Wedding Tips blog posts, now is the subject of Wedding Photographers. Photography is one of the most important elements of the day for many couples, so choosing the perfect photographer should not be taken lightly.

I’ve come across many a talented wedding photographer over the last few years. There is just an overwhelming number of fabulous photographers out there, that it can be hard to choose THE one for your big day.

My wedding tip is look through photographer’s blogs for good examples of their work and go with a style that you feel represents you both as a couple – not what you think is the “done thing” or the most ‘wedding-y” (unless, of course, you want “wedding-y”). Inevitably you will be drawn to a particular style of photography and that may be traditional, posed, black and white, reportage, retro…the list goes on. The main thing is that you feel comfortable on your wedding day and in front of your photographer – this is going to give you the best results, regardless of the style of photography you choose.

So I highly recommend meeting up with your chosen photographer/s to really get a feel for their personality, or have a skype chat if meeting up is tricky at first. This helped us so much, as we knew instantly that we’d made the right choice once we were laughing and giggling over skype with our photographer within minutes of meeting each other. We knew Emma Case would totally get us as a couple and therefore that would shine through in our photographs.

Another thing I highly recommend, if you can afford it, is to have an Engagement or Pre-wedding photo shoot with your chosen photographer. Not only is it first and foremost a load of fun, it gives you that extra opportunity to meet your photographer, bond with him/her and get a sneak preview of what’s to come. We loved it, had a right giggle and have got loads of beautiful photos of us as a couple – when else do you get the opportunity to indulge, and spend time concentrating on the two of you?!

Anyway I’ll stop rambling as this isn’t a blog-post on “how to find your wedding photographer” (I’ll write a separate post on that in due course), instead it’s a post of appreciation for some of the wonderfully talented people out there in the industry. So here goes…

My Top 5 Wedding Photographers:

1. Emma Case Photography – I fell in love with her dreamy, retro style, images with sun-spots, headless portraits and unique way of capturing all those special moments and details of someone’s wedding day. And on top of all of that, she’s just really friggin’ cool! Her hubby Pete’s not too bad either 😉 and second shoots. She did us so proud at our wedding with 100s of amazing photos to bring back happy memories and of course at our Engagement Shoot.

5. James Melia – I really like the “shine” that James’ photos have,  they wouldn’t look out of place in a high-end glossy magazine. He has this ability to make all his couples look like models and he captures the special moments beautifully.
