Top Holidays with Kids

Holly Wood By Holly Wood0 Comments3 min read39 views

We’ve just got back from a week’s holiday in Wales, which I’ll be writing about shortly and I’m already thinking about our next trip away. I know, I know, we’ve only just been to the slopes too, but I feel like we’ve been so busy recently with lots of big changes in our lives and I just want to make the most of the precious time we have as a family.

I’ve been thinking back to our past travels, both before and since we had our baby girl and am having a serious case of wanderlust!

Some people might have thought it a little crazy to hit the slopes (sort of) with a 7 month old, but I want her childhood to be packed with excitement and experiences that I believe are what memories are made of.

With this in mind, I’ve been thinking about more adventurous holidays that are perfect for kids and thought I’d share my ideas – I hope you enjoy them!

Lapland, Finland

Meeting a “real life” Father Christmas in a snow-covered grotto, in a far off land has to be the most magical experience you can give to a child. I definitely want my little girl to have that! Actually, I want to do it and I’m pretty sure hubby would love it too! Lapland is the perfect place for a kids adventure holiday; you get to spend the cold nights in a warm log cabin in a picture postcard village, go husky sledding (seriously!), take them on a sleigh ride with reindeer and even go ice fishing. This one’s definitely on the bucket list.

Niagara Falls, Canada

I’ve been a few times and the Canadian side is definitely better than the American (sorry guys!) and I remember my first trip with my family as a kid. I’d love to go back with our little family now. You can take the kids out on a Hornblower Cruise that takes you right up to the base of the Falls where you get sprayed with the crashing water (seriously amazing!). Don’t worry, you’ll get your own raincoat, and the kids can listen to the running commentary and learn more about the Falls. Next time I go, I want to actually stay at the Falls…imagine waking up to that as your view! Well, I’ve done some digging for you as there are some hotels that come with spectacular views of the Falls. If this sounds like your thing, then be sure to head over to the Niagara Falls Marriott to see what I mean – this place has THE view!

Rome, Italy

Those of you who read my blog regularly will know that I’ve been to Italy quite a lot now, but I’m yet to visit Rome (I know, I know).  Although we love the peacefulness of Tuscany, I think that Rome would be a great option for a family in search of adventure. From the ancient gladiatorial battles that were held in the Colosseum (click here to check out what I mean), to the dozens of ancient ruins and museums in the area, it’s perfect for our little explorer. I think Daddy would love that too.

Florida, USA

Arguably top on hubby’s list, what better place in the world to take a child than the many theme parks in Florida? I can already imagine her little face light up when she spots her favourite characters in the Magic Kingdom, or the smiles as she sees all the animals in Busch Gardens. I know this would be awesome and this is a must-see for us.

So that’s four places I know we want to visit as a family. What do you think? Have you been to any of the above for an adventure holiday with your kids?
