Eating out in Volterra

Tuscany is packed full of beautiful cities, towns and villages. Every time we visit, we discover somewhere new and each has its own quirks, delicacies and style. I so enjoy driving through the Tuscan hills and stumbling across a new place. But one place that we discovered on our very first visit to Tuscany and one place that we visit on every single trip, is the hill-top town of Volterra.

Volterra, although popular with visitors and tourists, has managed to retain its Tuscan charm and is very much a lived-in town (quite different to its rival and neighbour San Gimignano) and still feels authentic. Its narrow alleyways are packed full of quaint little shops, cafes and restaurants.

Eating out in Volterra is an absolute joy and this trip saw us eat out twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Continue reading

Lunch in Viareggio

This summer saw my second trip to the coastal town of Viareggio in Italy. It’s a strange place, but in summer, it’s a wonderful place to spend the day in one of the many beach clubs.

Next door to the richer, more popular Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio seems a little stuck in the past. Stuck in its hey-dey of the first half of the 20th century, but in a good way. The wide, almost American roads and promenades, go for miles, along the sea front. A walk-way runs the length of the town and takes you strolling past the different beach clubs, some with pools and bars, but all with loungers and cabanas on the beach.Continue reading

Skiing in Flaine – Part 3

Continuing in my Skiing in Flaine series, I’m now onto the good stuff…the food!

I spent a lot of time eating while I was away, as to be honest, it was just too tempting not to. The weather was stunning – sunny and warm, so we spent every lunch time sitting outside enjoying lunch.

Each day, the rest of the gang would get up early to get a few runs in before lunch. I’d potter about and play with the little lady until about 11am, when we’d get our bits together and go for a stroll. After one day, I realised that although not the worst snowy conditions, it was still tricky to get about on foot (especially with a pram), so I quickly got into the spirit of the slopes and bought some Moon Boots. These seriously made it easy to get about and kept me stable on foot (which was extremely important when carrying a baby!). Continue reading
