A bit of Michael Buble at the 02 London

Well, of course I couldn’t not include a post at about the amazingly talented Michael Buble, who we saw at London’s 02 last week.

I’d seen him before a couple of years ago and he didn’t disappoint, so when I heard he was touring again, I sat on the internet at 9am and watched every date sell out before my very eyes! I’d missed out and was gutted. So when he added a couple of extra dates at London’s 02, I dived right in again and this time got tickets for myself and mummy.

8 months later, I was on the train down to London from Manchester (cheap upgrade to First Class so I could enjoy a couple of glasses of wine), in the Summer sunshine, absolutely chomping at the bit to see him perform live again. Mummy met me at Euston at we made our way down to the Embankment where we jumped on the Thames Clipper to Greenwich. What a great way to travel! With an on-board bar and views of the River Thames and London, it’s a 50-min journey to the 02 at Greenwich and costs £5.85 with your Oyster Card.

We were making an afternoon of it, so arrived at around 5pm for dinner and cocktails. We had a table booked at Las Iguanas inside the 02, where we enjoyed rum punch and a gorgeous 2-course meal. Yummy and set-us up for the evening.

Off we went to find our seats, which were on the floor and not far from the stage at all (I was happy) and settled in whilst the ever-talented group Natural 7 were opening for Michael. You could sense the excitement of the crowd and what a mixed crowd it was! Fantastic! Then the arena went dark, the room went silent and the music kicked-in. Everyone screamed as the impressive pyrotechnics (which Michael joked they had spent all the tour budget on) exploded on stage and up came Michael Buble. What a legend!

He went on to sing his classics, some newbies and some great standards, including a Motown set, a nod to Barry Gibb with ‘How can you mend a broken heart’ and of course his big-band standards. Every song was performed fantastically and had the crowd on their feet singing their hearts out. He’s such a great showman. Interspersed with anecdotes and general chatting (he’s very funny and down to earth it seems) and of course beaming about his unborn child, the 1hr 45min set flew by! We were gutted when it finished and cheered for the encore, which kicked-off with the impactful ‘Cry Me A River’ and didn’t disappoint. He then finished by taking off his ear-phones and microphones and belting out a verse on stage a capella – this is where no one can deny that the man can sing and has got some power in his lungs. I typically left glossy-eyed after that.

Once it was all over, we made our way over to the Jubilee line with 1000s of other people and within 45mins we were home! What a night!

Mr Buble, we thank you for entertaining us yet again! Worth every penny.
