What is engineered wood flooring?

Flooring caused so much debate, chat and worry when planning our renovation project. We love parquet flooring, but the price to have it fit was extortionate and with circa 50 squared-metres to cover, we couldn’t risk doing it ourselves (it would have taken years!). So our other options were laminate or engineered wood. So I thought I’d put this post together to talk about engineered wood flooring, in case like me, you didn’t know what it was!

For many, you can’t beat the look and feel of a genuine wooden floor, but it can be expensive and isn’t necessarily the most practical, so engineered wood flooring is a great alternative. ,

But how is engineered wood flooring so different? And what is it that’s making it so popular?

The Perfect Home Cinema

So during our renovation, as with most projects of this size, things took longer than expected and cost more money than budgeted…not too much more as I’m a spreadsheet queen, but enough to make us watch the pennies for a little while. So the finishing touches have been put on hold, the finessing and the fine-tuning of most of the rooms. In fact, it was really only the new open plan living space and kitchen and main bathroom that was 90% complete, which was intentional, as we knew this would be the space we’d spend all our time in…and we were right!

With the hubby into his technology and gadgets and being that we now live out of this new space, we chill, eat, drink, work, cook and play from this living space and guess what? We watch a lot of telly from the space too! So one thing we did treat ourselves too, was a new television and home cinema set-up. Continue reading

How to Tell if You Have an Underground Drainage Leak

During The House Project, as with the majority of renovations, I’m sure, things arise that you don’t plan for! I think most home-owners have to deal with sudden leaks, power-cuts and the such like. Well do you think about outside your house and underground? We didn’t! If an underground pipe develops a leak, it can be hard to detect because it’s below the ground. These leaks very often don’t manifest above ground as the water will tend to sink downwards, unless it’s very severe. However, there are still ways to determine if your underground pipes are failing and it’s important to be vigilant because leaks of this sort can lead to problems with the foundations of your building. Knowing that you have an underground leak and addressing it early can save you thousands of pounds.
