WAHU Launch Spinningfields

So I was lucky enough to get invited to the launch party of the latest food offering on Spinningfields in Manchester – WAHU.

I’ve been excited about the arrival of WAHU for quite some time now, as it promised to bring a much needed healthy and balanced food offering to the area (perfect for lunch!). I like places that take the thought out of being healthy…if there is a naughty option on the menu, I’ll always go for that without fail, but all options at WAHU are good, which makes me feel good for going there.

The menu is succinct and to the point. You can grab a healthy breakfast of porridge, omelette or even protein pancakes (all you health and fitness junkies will love that!).

For lunch, you can create your own box, choosing a ‘base’, a ‘protein’, up to 3 ‘extras’ and a ‘dressing’. An example would be: Wholegrain rice, with beef, red onions, green beans, broccoli and teriyaki. This costs ÂŁ5.95 so not too bad for a decent lunch box that’ll fill you up for the afternoon!

Their ‘Dinner Box’ puts together selections for you to grab, such as ‘Firecracker Chicken Pasta Box’ and ‘Moroccan Lamb Salad Box’. These range from ÂŁ4.95 – ÂŁ7.95.

And possibly my favourite thing about this place is, it’s licensed! So you can pop by after work, grab a Dinner Box and a beer or glass of Prosecco. Now that’s right up my street!

So onto the launch…

It was perfect weather to enjoy the al-fresco seating and complimentary glasses of Prosecco on offer. And the interior design in this place is awesome! It’s fresh, bright, neon and informal – I really like it. There’s a ‘communal’ seating feel inside and lots of tables outside on the terrace of The Avenue, Spinningfields.

We were offered a menu of boxes to choose from as a taster…I opted for the Teriyaki Beef on Wholegrain Rice. We formed an orderly (and well-mannered) queue to the food station, where friendly staff were ready to fill our boxes. The colours of all the fresh ingredients on show was a welcome sight to behold (I already felt the calories dropping-off me in preparation for my healthy balanced meal).

Once we collected our box, we headed out onto the terrace to enjoy with a glass of Prosecco. And enjoy it I did! The beef was cooked just the way I like it, with a slight hint of pink. The veg (broccoli and green beans) had just enough crunch and the rice formed a nice filling base. The only thing I would say is I would have loved more Teriyaki Sauce (but that’s probably where I’ve been going wrong with my diet all these years). Yum!

J-Gibs enjoyed it too! Can you tell?

It was great to see everyone sat outside, enjoying their food and it really was a great atmosphere. I definitely think this place is going to be popular and offers a welcoming healthier option to the Spinningfields estate.

I can’t wait to go back and sample more of the culinary delights (particularly interested in a protein pancake with banana and peanut butter!). I’ll be sure to follow-up here when I do.

Head along people and let me know what you think!
