Roast Dinner at The Wharf Manchester

Everyone loves a good Sunday Roast Dinner, including me and I’ve made it my mission to find the best one in Manchester! So I started with somewhere that I enjoy as a pub and always love their food: The Wharf Manchester.

We headed over on a cold Winter’s Sunday, just before Christmas, when my folks were visiting for the weekend. We booked, as it was so close to Christmas, and I’m glad we did as we got a lovely table on the first floor by the window. As always, the staff greeted us with friendly “hellos”and good service as we were led to our table and shown the impressive menu.

I was sure of what I wanted before even looking at the menu and opted for the Roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Mum and Dad went for the same and hubby opted for Roast partridge (posh!). I’ll cut to the chase and let you know that it was bloody good grub! Fantastic portions (a must in our books), tasty fresh ingredients and good booze to wash it down with.

While we waited, I snapped a few shots of the lovely festive surroundings – their laid dining tables and poinsetta window displays.

On to the important bit…the food…and look at this!

Hubby did enjoy his partridge, but I think he had food envy of our impressive roast dinner plates.

Our roast dinner came with yummy potatoes (crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside), cabbage, cauliflower, mashed suede and carrots, and of course that sumptuous giant yorkshire pud. There was plenty of gravy too and horseradish sauce. You’ll see from the photo above that the beef was perfectly pink and tender. We were very happy customers. I managed to clear my plate and was comfortably full…at ÂŁ12.95, I felt it was good value for money and didn’t leave disappointed as I often do with the expensive gastro-pub roast dinners of today.

I know most would choose a lovely red to wash this down, but I stuck with my favourite Malborough Sauvignon Blanc, which was light and crisp with the meaty beef. It also went down well with the Baileys Cheescake I had for dessert (sorry no photos, it didn’t last long enough!).

I would certainly recommend that you fellow foodies hunting for the perfect Sunday roast dinner, seek out this place. Nestled next to the canal in Castlefield, it’s a lovely quiet location to while-away a Sunday afternoon. Worth noting for the fellas out there too, it does a good selection of ales (again, sometimes a rarity these days!).

Where should I venture next in my hunt for the perfect sunday roast in Manchester?
