5 Ways to help Morning Sickness

You may have seen my post earlier about my personal experience with nausea or “morning sickness” in the first trimester of my pregnancy. As I said, everyone is different, but I know a lot of pregnant women do feel sick at various points during their pregnancy and so I’ve put together 5 tips that helped me with my nausea…

Help Morning Sickness

1. Eat little and often

Graze throughout the day. You probably won’t be able to stomach big plates of food, but you need to keep your calorie intake and energy levels up. So just eat small amounts, even if it’s just a few bites, regularly throughout the day. Ideally 6 times a day.

2. Pack in food when you can

If you have moments where your nausea leaves you and you’re feeling more “normal”, take the opportunity and try and eat more. Get some food in before your sickness returns.

3. Drink lots of fluids

Again, it might not be what you want to do when you’re feeling sick, but carry a water bottle or flask around with you and take small sips throughout the day. Vomiting can lead to dehydration, so it’s important to keep your fluid levels up.

4. Snack on dry foods

Keep it simple and plain. Crackers, dry toast, even crisps. It’ll likely be easier for you to “stomach”.

5. Don’t push yourself!

Like with everything during pregnancy, just listen to your body and be patient with yourself. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t push it! And always ask for help or support if you’re not sure. Your midwives really don’t mind!
